P. T. Barnum once quipped, "You can never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American Public."
I believe the above quote has also served as a mantra for the republican party since the 1960's. In election after election they are able to dupe the American electorate with the same empty rhetoric.
Republicans claim to be anti-flag burning patriots meanwhile they neglect our returning veterans after failing to properly equip them for the strategically poorly planned Vietnam and Iraq wars. Combat tours are arbitrarily extended as our war profiting VP Cheney states, "well, they did volunteer to join the forces."
Republicans pledge to cut taxes - and they do, mostly for the very wealthy - by telling the average American, its your money.
The result of the average republican tax cut: Joe and Jane Doe receive a $300.00 refund that they have to declare as income in their subsequent tax return; higher state taxes to compensate for less revenue states receive from the feds; less money to repair or fund our schools, healthcare, roads and bridges; billions and billions of dollar subsidies (welfare) for rich corporations that transfers middle-management and manufacturing jobs overseas; and, soaring deficits and a very weak dollar.
Another election year and the republicans are striking up the band to play the same ole tune in which middle-America has a Pavlovian behavior response.
Well, P. T. Barnum also said, "A sucker is born everyday."
