National Kidney Disease Awareness Month - Part I

Kidney Functions:

The kidneys are a pair of bean-shaped organs that lie on either side of the spine in the lower middle of the back. The primary function of kidneys is to remove waste and excess water from our blood.

In other words: Kidneys filter your blood. They remove wastes and extra water. When the kidneys are diseased, they stop doing these jobs and wastes build up, damaging the body. If not treated, kidney disease can lead to kidney failure.

Kidney disease high risk groups: people with high blood pressure, diabetes are family history of kidney failure. If you belong to one of these group, experts recommend frequent kidney testing and doctor consultation.

The source of the information is National Kidney Disease Education Program (NKDEP). For more information go to NKDEP.
