After Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown voted to end the GOP filibuster on the Job's bill in the senate, one has to wonder, is President Obama, strategically speaking, in a better position with moderate Republicans than with liberal Democrats?
First, with a super majority the Dems have to take all the responsibility for governing - the good, bad and ugly.
Second, with a few more moderate Republicans, this would create an environment for more bipartisanship. Remember, if the Republicans gain more seats it will most likely be in swing districts, hence, they would be apt to be more centrist than right-wing.
Third, a stronger presence of moderate Republicans would probably quell the extreme demands from the most liberal wing of the Dems.

Tale Of Two Africas
It is common knowledge that many countries in Africa are beset with crippling poverty, disease and corruption. The western media, as they should, reports this Africa night and day.
Whether reporting on Nigeria, Angola, Republic of Congo, Uganda, Ghana or South African the storyline remains the same - poor dysfuntional Africa. As one that never accepts the prevailing narrative of the western press on face value, I probed further and discovered, via alternative medias, that there is more to the African experience than is reported by western media. GOP Hypocrisy Exposed
Just when you think Republicans have reached an all time nadir in morality, the duplicitous and cynical bunch prove they can descend much lower.
In the following clip, MSNBC's Rachael Maddow exposes GOP senators and legislators who have vocally mocked President Obama's stimulus package while taking credit in their home districts for the jobs produced by the stimulus package.
Yes, while on the national stage they loudly jeered how the stimulus package had no positive effects and created no jobs, they locally attended ribbon cutting ceremonies to applaud projects created by the stimulus project.

Republican Senatorial Gain
As the reality of Scott Brown's election win sinks in, the challenge is what can we glean from this stunningly huge Republican upset in the liberal bastion Massachusetts. The irony of him winning the late senator Ted Kennedy's senate seat, as an anti-health care candidate, speaks volumes. After all, Ted Kennedy was a strong advocate for Universal Health Care - it was, posthumously, to be his legacy.
What does it all mean?
Did it mean Americans rejected Universal Health Care? Was it a negative referendum on President Obama's agenda? Did it mean the Democrats fielded a weak candidate? Is it a unforced fumble by the an over confident Democratic party? Or, is it a harbinger for the 2010 mid-term elections?
One thing for sure, it means, President Obama's agenda faces daunting and mounting roadblocks now that his party no longer has a filibuster proof super majority in the senate.
Politics is not a Spectator Sport
First and foremost, in my opinion, we progressives tend to get out worked by the conservative machine. Case in point, after the historical election of President Barack Obama, we celebrated, high-fived and partied. The mindset was, we overcame and we reached the promise land.
However, on the other side, they licked their wounds and then they planned, plotted and launched, perhaps, the most cynical and unprecedented political scorched the earth attack in recent history.
Obama's administration had to contend with, 24 hours of FOX propaganda, Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, Tea Party nuts (not all of them, mainly the fringe elements) and the "just say no" Republican congress. All of this played out while the American people were in the throes of the worst economic recession/depression and job shortage since the Great Depression.
Conventional wisdom would state that, while suffering from the affects of eight years of failed Bush/Cheney polices - giving to the rich; allowing Wall Street to go wild; and, fighting an expensive war of choice in Iraq - surely, the American public wouldn't award the criminals because the new sheriff couldn't magically fix everything over night. Conventional wisdom was wrong.
THE LESSON:
We can not continue to elect great leaders and watch, from the sidelines, as they do battle with well armed and financed armies. Our adversary is forever diligent in their quest. They have out worked, hustled, and maneuvered us. Just think, for instance:
Where was our Tea Party convention to counter theirs? Where were our Town Hall,
In a nutshell, Republican conservatives fervently believe, they are the only party fit to govern and when voted out of power they will - if allowed - sabotage, malign and nuetralize, by any means necessary, any other party in government - no matter how popular with the American people they are.
Just ask Bill Clinton!

upstaged and I had never seen the Reverend
Jesse Louis Jackson cry in public until last month.
Jackson invited Bill Cosby to the annual Rainbow /
PUSH conference for a conversation about the
controversial remarks the entertainer offered on
May 17 at an NAACP dinner in Washington , D.C.
when America 's Jell-O Man shook things up
by arguing that African Americans were betraying
the legacy of civil rights victories. Cosby said
'the lower economic people are not holding up their
end in this deal. These people are not parenting..
They are buying things for their kids...
$500 sneakers for what? But they won't spend $200
for 'Hooked on Phonics'
Bill Cosby came to town and upstaged the reverend
by going on the offense instead of defending his
earlier remarks. Thursday morning, Cosby showed
no signs of repenting as he strode across the stage
at the Sheraton Hotel ballroom before a standing
room only crowd. Sporting a natty gold sports coat
and dark glasses, he proceeded to unload a Laundry
list of black America's self-imposed ills. The iconic
actor and comedian kidded that he couldn't compete
with the oratory of the Reverend but he preached
circles around Jackson in their nearly hour-long
conversation, delivering brutally frank one-liners
and the toughest of love.
The enemy, he argues, is us: "There is a time,
ladies and gentlemen, when we have to turn
the mirror around." Cosby acknowledged he wasn't
critiquing all blacks. . .. just the 50 percent of African
Americans in the lower economic neighborhood
who drop out of school, and the alarming proportions
of black men in prison and black teenage mothers.
The mostly black crowd seconded him with choruses
of Amens.
To the critics who pose, it's unproductive to air our
dirty laundry in public, he responds,
"Your dirty laundry gets out of school at 2:30 every day."
It's cursing on the way home, on the bus, train,
in the candy store. They are cursing and grabbing
each other and going nowhere. The book bag is very,
very thin because there's nothing in it.
Don't worry about the white man, he added.
I could care less about what white people think
about me. . . Let them talk.
What are they saying that is so different from what
their grandfathers said and did to us?
What is different is what we are doing to ourselves.
For those who say Cosby is just an elitist who's
"got his" but doesn't understand the plight of the
black poor, he reminds us that,
"We're going to turn that mirror around.
It's not just the poor-everybody's guilty."
Cosby and Jackson lamented that in the 50th years
of Brown vs. Board of Education, our failings betray
our legacy. Jackson dabbed away tears as he
recalled the financial struggles at Fisk University ,
a historically black college and Jackson 's Alma mater.
When Cosby was done, the 1,000 people in the room
all jumped to their feet in ovation.
We have shed tears too many times, at too many
watershed moments before, while the hopes they inspired
have fallen by the wayside. Not t his time!
Cosby's plea to parents:
"Before you get to the point where you say 'I can't do
nothing with them' , do something with them."
Teach our children to speak English.
There's no such thing as "talking white".
When the teacher calls, show up at the school.
When the idiot box starts spewing profane rap videos;
turn it off. Refrain from cursing around the kids.
Teach our boys that women should be cherished,
not raped and demeaned.
Tell them that education is a prize we won with blood
and tears, not a dishonor.
Stop making excuses for the agents and abettors
of black on black crime.
It costs us nothing to do these things.
But if we don't, it will cost us infinitely more tears.
We all send thousands of jokes through e-mail
without a second thought, but when it comes
to sending messages regarding life choices,
people think twice about sharing.
The crude, vulgar, and sometimes the obscene
pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion
of decency is too often suppressed in the schools and
workplaces.

Crunch Time - Strength In Numbers
I am going to keep it simple and real.
Do you want comprehensive Health Care? Do you want our country to re-invest in the environment and infrastructure? Do you want a more sane foreign policy that would yield long term stability? Do you want an effective climate control policy?
If the answers are yes, the next question is, how come we liberals/progressives are virtually silent as the far right republicans aggressively try to thwart the mandate President Obama received election day? A vast and diverse electorate sent Obama and other elected officials to Washington to bring Change We Believe In.
As frequently stated, the election was the easy part; governing, law making and new policy development remains the hard part. Yet, we can not expect legislative success if we do not continue to participate in the process. The stakes are too high!

Nile Contributions to Civilization by Anthony Browder

Every so often, people that know me and my passion ask me to recommend a book on African and African-American history. Usually, they want a easy to read and understand book that has a compelling narrative. Without pause, I strongly suggest Anthony Browder's book (complete with study guide) called, Exploding The Myth, Vol 1 Nile Contribution to Civilization.
This book documents, narrates, illustrates the ancient history of Africans in creating the first civilizations of the world. And although Mr. Browder uses archeological and anthropological facts and discoveries to document his claims, he avoids becoming to scholarly in presentation as to scare off the average reader. In fact, his book with the accompanying study guide are intellectually accessible for the entire family.

Random notes
Currently, I have so much on my mind that I find if hard to concentrate on one specific point, hence, indulge me a few minutes as I emote.
Republicans: They are truly showing their stripes (or fangs). They are nasty, racist, homo phobic, anti-immigrant, devoid of constructive ideas and hateful. They have launched a scorch the earth attack against President Obama and the democratic party. It saddens me that the average middle American, falls prey to their divide and conquer tactics.
Is it not the height of cruelty, irony and mockery for the republicans to label Obama a Nazi. Pleeeese, there is not question which party in demographics, thug tactics and group thinks that reflect more of a Nazi stance than the republicans.
Michael Steele: He has got to be one of the biggest losers (or self-servers) on the political landscape. He has signed on to be the Republican water boy, even as they diss him and put him in his place (think Rush Limbaugh and representative John Boehner). Question: If John McCain or Hilliary Clinton were elected president would clueless Steele be the chairman of the Republican National Party? Can you say Hell to the no! Plain and simple: Steele is a black face to give republicans cover as they hurl mud at President Obama.
Sarah Palin: Ooops... I was mistaken, Steele is not the most clueless! Can someone please tell me what middle America find so fascinating about this ignorant figure. She has no inclusive vision of America. Her America is a them against us and we know who the them and the us is.
One final note: Do not let the republican party fool you into thinking we disseminate hate by aggressively responding to the transparent vile and contempt they have for us. Do not cower in the face of a bully. Stand up and fight back!

The problem I have with haters is that they see my glory, but they

Most of our haters are people who are supposed to be
on our side (like some family and friends).
How do you handle your undercover haters?
You can handle these haters by:
1. Knowing who you are & who your true friends are
*(VERY IMPORTANT!!)
2. Having a purpose to your life: Purpose does not
mean having a job. You can have a job and still be
unfulfilled.
A purpose is having a clear sense of what God has called you to be.
Your purpose is not defined by what others think about you.
3. By remembering that what you have is by divine
prerogative and not human manipulation.
Fulfill your dreams! You only have one life to live....when its your
time to leave this earth, you want to be able to say, 'I've lived my
life and fulfilled my dreams, Now I'm ready to go HOME!
When God gives you favor, you can tell your haters, 'Don't look at
me....Look at who is in charge of me...'
Pass this to all o f your family & friends who you know are
not hating on you including the person who sent it to you.
If you don't get it back, maybe you called somebody out!
Don't worry about it, it's not your problem, it's theirs.
Just pray for them, that their life can be as fulfilled as
yours! Watch out for Haters...BUT most of all don't become
a HATER!

A hater is someone who is jealous and envious and spends all their
time trying to make you look small so they can look tall.
They are very negative people to say the least. Nothing is ever
good enough!
When you make your mark, you will always attract some haters...
That's why you have to be careful with whom you share your
blessings and your dreams, because some folk can't handle seeing
you blessed...
It's dangerous to be like somebody else... If God wanted you to be
like somebody else, He would have given you what He gave them! Right?
You never know what people have gone through to get what they
have...
The problem I have with haters is that they see my glory, but they
don't know my story...
If the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, you
can rest assured that the water bill is higher there too!

Temper Tantrum
I am back from a summer hiatus!
Temper Tantrum:
The child is seeking attention or is tired, hungry, or uncomfortable. In addition, tantrums are often the result of kids' frustration with the world — they can't get something (for example, an object or a parent) to do what they want.
My, oh my, even though we elected our first black president, the temper tantrum by right wing nuts have proven we are not even near the zip code of post-race America.
A so-called minister has prayed for President Obama's death; gun freaks have shown up a political rallies with loaded automatic weapons; a southern confederate in congress shouts "you lie" during a presidential speech; a congresswoman from Kansas stated "we need a great white hope"; hate radio has launched an aggressive smear campaign against Obama; and, Fox News Nation continuously panders to white fear of blacks and immigrants.
Old habbits die hard.
I knew Rush/Hannity and fill in the blank would be who they are, but I am disappointed in the silence from mainstream press regarding their (right wing nuts) racially charged tactics and the danger they pose for our country.
Where is the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, Time Magazine, Newsweek? With the possible exception of MSNBC they all have been strangely mute on the underlining story and motive behind this "right wing uprising"
Until now. My mom referred me to Maureen Dowd's (Saturday, September 12, 2009) Op-Ed column called Boy, Oh Boy. In her own words:
I’ve been loath to admit that the shrieking lunacy of the summer — the frantic efforts to paint our first black president as the Other, a foreigner, socialist, fascist, Marxist, racist, Commie, Nazi; a cad who would snuff old people; a snake who would indoctrinate kids — had much to do with race.
Its about time someone removes the gloves and fight the bully back! The irony a girl has thrown the first punch while the boys cower behind the water cooler is not lost on me.

Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory. for ever and ever. Amen
For several reasons, this is one of my favorite prayers. I get it. To me, it captures the very essence of our journey and existence. Right form the start: Our father, who art in heaven, hallow be thy name; We humbly recognize the universal force, god, Allah or Yahweh; we sing praise to his name; and we pray that god's kingdom in heaven manifests on earth.
And forgive us our trespasses and we forgive those who trespass against us...
Second, this prayer acknowledges the relationship of seeking forgiveness and forgiving. In essence, in order to be forgiven one has forgive. This reality, I firmly believe. The act of god forgiving us, is an act of our conscience being released from guilt. Without releasing people we perceive trespass against us, we can not fully be delivered from self-guilt because we have yet to master the symbiotic relationship of forgive/forgiven.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
This is the law of attraction, like energy seeking like energy. To follow god - that which is good - so we are not seduced by negativity - that which is evil - is an act of calling upon the laws of attraction in order to emancipate or deliver us from darkness.
I try to say this prayer several times a day. The Lord's Prayer reminds me that my universe is a reflection of my thoughts. My actions are a manifestation of my thoughts. If my prayer, meditation and thoughts are aligned with god, then I call for heaven on earth... god's will be done. Amen

SPEAK SOFTLY AND CARRY A BIG STICK
100 Days of President Obama and 51% of the country likes him and his policy. Another 30% like him but do not share all his policies. Currently, Mr. Obama is riding the wave of popularity that he and his administration is leveraging into political capital. Cool, calm and composed under pressure has been his trademark demeanor. This is precisely the serene and intellectual leadership our country has lacked. Some (the off the cliff far-right and ideologues on the far-left) see his non-confrontational political style as weakness. Quite the opposite, as the following article best describes...

Diabetes Cure?
I read this article on MSNBC.COM tonight called Beating Diabetes. The article cited "former diabetics" who claimed by changing their lifestyles they restored their blood glucose levels to normal and no longer have to take medicine. On the other hand, the medical community does not believe these patients are cured - they believe diabetes (at this time) is a one way street.
However they classify you, diabetic, former diabetic, diabetic in remission or cured diabetic, it can be nothing short of fantastic to have excellent blood sugar levels and delay the need of medicine!

The Heart Health Scare in Black America
This article, regarding the Heart-Failure crisis in Black-American, appeared in Newsweek on Friday, April 10, 2009.
Todd Bowen, a 42-year-old father of seven, has been visiting the In the Cut barbershop in Inglewood, Calif., every two weeks for seven years. He likes to look good, but he never expected his tonsorial routine to save his life. In February, Bowen arrived at the shop to find not only his barbers, but also a doctor doing on-the-spot testing for hypertension and diabetes. Bowen, who is uninsured, had never been tested for either; that day he tested positive for both, with a blood-pressure reading of 160/89. "I was all shaken up when I saw where I was on the scale and where I was supposed to be," Bowen says. "I thought I was invincible, immune. If they wouldn't have been there, I wouldn't have gotten tested. I wouldn't have went out of my way. It was God's will for that to happen to me."

Top Ten Rush Limbaugh Racist Statements
The following are actual comments by Rush Limbaugh. There is something we can do about it. We can complain directly to the companies that sell advertising on his show. 4. Right. So you go into Darfur and you go into South Africa, you get rid of the white government there. You put sanctions on them. You stand behind Nelson Mandela - who was bankrolled by communists for a time, had the support of certain communist leaders. You go to Ethiopia. You do the same thing.
5. Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.
6. The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.
7. They're 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?
Decent human beings care Rush. Someone out of that 12% may just become President of the United States. Not caring about black people? Even George Bush wouldn't admit to that.
